Ohio State University is the largest public school in Ohio. With over 46,000 students enrolled you can be sure that there is a lot to talk about. Ohio State was once known as just a general “everyone goes there school” to now it being highly competitive.Ohio State is known for football, The Buckeyes, and their favorite mascot, Brutus the Buckeye.

Academics

Anyone that goes to Ohio State knows that academics and school is top priority. You know that right away due to the acceptance rate, which is currently at 64% with an average ACT score of 29. OSU received the 2013 Academic Ranking of World Universities: #65 Out of 500 Research Universities. Because OSU is so large they are able to offer many degrees to educate their students. They offer: Bachelor’s Degree, Postbaccalaureate Certificate, Master’s Degree, Post-master’s Certificate, Doctor’s Degree – Research/scholarship. Doctor’s Degree – Professional Practice. 46% of OSU students graduate within four years. In addition to the great degrees, they offer many special opportunities such as: ROTC, Study Abroad, Weekend/Evening College, and Teacher Certification.

Social Life

Social life at OSU will be one that you will never forget. From Greek Life to block parties near OSU you are looking for one good of a time. Thanks to OSU and being so close to the city of Columbus opens the gateway to even more social opportunities. Nearby clubs and Music Theatres allows everyone in the area to be one and socialize. OSU is not just all studying, they pary harder. The biggest street parties known are the Chittfest and the Lake Mirror Jump. With so many people going to school at Ohio State, it’s going to be hard to not run into someone that could very well be your friend for life. The sheer numbers favor social aspects of going to college, and will definitely factor into the decision making process. Whether you’re a social butterfly or a wallflower, there’s a good selection of students, activities, and opportunities for students. 

Campus

Having 50,000 plus students means that the school better be able to hold them, and the size of this school is definitely one of the drawing factors. It covers a large area of Columbus, Ohio and it is home to top tiered Division 1 basketball, and football programs which draw national attention. It is definitely a full scale, large school that is ranked amongst the biggest in the Midwest, and the nation.

Final Review

At the end of the day, if you want the “traditional” college experience, this is going to provide it for you. It’s a large campus, with division 1 sports teams, and 50,000 plus students. While out of state students may pay more, the academics are top notch, and depending on what your major is, Ohio State offers a solid opportunity to learn, and grow.
